U-18s fall to Colfe's School Of London

The Richmond Invitational side fell 33 - 7 to Colfe's School of London in a well-played match in front of fans at South Arm Park in Richmond on Thursday night. The young Dragons side was captained by Mati Gordon for the final time as the young fly half heads to the University of Toronto in September to play for the Varsity Blues.

Colfe's, in their gold jerseys with the white and navy trim, scored first on a penalty from 35 metres out. Richmond answered back after a nifty chip kick by Gordon bounced off the uprights and back into his hands for an easy try. Gordon converted his own score, and the hosts were up by four after 20 minutes played. On the re-start, the Richmond forward pack, lead by Anton Metalnikov, Rhys Daniels, Michael Rankin and Brian Plenert put the Colfe's squad under pressure, but after some good phases of play, Colfe's was able to re-group and march the length of the field from a nifty counter-attack. The visitors scored twice and at the half it was 13 - 7.

In the second stanza, it was all Colfe's as their off-loading and slide defence challenged the Richmond lads to adapt. Four consecutive tries by the tourists ended the game with a bit more of a lopsided score than was deserved, however the play of Spencer Walker and Kishan Karunathasan (on loan from Burnaby) in the back line was a bright spot for the home side. The RRFC (and friends) would like to wish Colfe's all the best on their continued tour of Alberta & BC as their next stop is against Cowichan in Duncan and will surely be a strong test!
